Compiling PHP-4.2.3 on Solaris 9

Never used solaris, but obviously libtool.ar is missing -- isn't that part of the c development library?

Maybe php isn't linking properly to it (if it's there).

try google with your error message if you have less luck with pkg install (?).

Thanks. I made sure that libtool is in the exec search path and tested it. I'm still getting the same error. This thing is such a pain in the ass.

I know it can be -- I had nightmares with some custom installs on debian.

Try linking paths like this: (I do configs in a small sh file).

#!/bin/sh

The file below is from one of the servers here... modify as you see fit, see if it helps!

LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/ssl/lib -L/usr/local/src/rsaref-2.0/local/ -L/usr/local/curl/lib" LIBS="-lRSAglue -lrsaref" ./configure \

--enable-something \
--other-options

I had similar problem... and solved it by adding
/usr/ccs/bin to PATH environment variable.

So I got finally it to compile (v4.2.3) using:

./configure --with-mysql --with-apache=../apache_1.3.9
make clean install

What do I do next in order to make it work?

I think you want now to launch 'make'...

I think ./configure just creates the makefile that 'make' now needs to use. I think it identifies compilers and linkers and such.

I think you now need to just run 'make' from the CL.
You might want to run 'make clean' to remove cruft left over from previous attemps first...

When I run make it still seems to bomb out near the end... pls see my other posts on this.
