I'm new at this php...

I'm trying to create a web page that consists of one whole graphic image. But to the right, I need like a rectangle cut-out to load in pages from the in graphic links.

About how would I go about doing this?...

I've seen web pages that consist mostly of an graphic image. However when a link is clicked it loads into a window in the within image. I kinda don't know how to explain it...

So here's an example:

hat's a standard template+content layout

you have an include for menu and start of page and an include containing the end

you put your content in the actual script and you have the same pages over and over with diff content (check on http://www.coldware.net and tell me if that's the kind of layout you want)

That's close, with everything lined up right, etc...

How would I put links in the vertical banner that would bring the content up with the ugly large rectangle...

By the way, I don't plan on using that. However i would like to learn to build web sites similair to it.

I tried using basic HTML tables before to line up multiple images straight to appear as one image. Doesn't work well...

Do you know any sites that can teach me more on standard template + content layout?

Only thing about that xboxxtreme site is, can it be done without having to reload the whole page? Just what's inside the box, or where the content is?...

use frames then. Standard HTML will do nicely

Let's say I used that image, how would I make the rectangle an iframe? How would I get content to appear in the large orange rectangle then?

Do you know what I would have to enter in on the tag to remove the frame border?

On ya, if I try and use frame, with an image in the frame, then the image doesn't line up next to the window. There's always a gap...

just generate a page with a orange (#FF8000 <-- my orange) with PHP using a DB to store image name or a qeurystring...

I'm as new as a newbie can get with PHP ...

I'm don't know what alot of stuff is quite yet. What's a DB and a qeurystring?

Your saying I can get content to appear ontop of the orange rectangle? How would it scroll?

Please forgive my ingorance, I just started teaching myself PHP yesterday... I've only just now got the equipment set up and working (apache, mySQL, phpdev, etc).

ok DB means database (go for MySQL with a phpmyadmin running somewhere on your server)
a querystring is the parameters after the actual url
example:
http://www.foo.com/bar.php?dummy=no <--- THIS IS A QUERYSTRING

if you want an easy setup for PHP use EasyPHP.com (.org? .net?) and install mysql, phpmyadmin, apache, PHP and more as ONE component. Works great now that's what I use on my demo laptop
