Copy contents, insert new content, add old content after.

Hey,

Wondering if anyone knew how to open a file, copy the contents, insert new contents, and paste old contents after the new stuff. It's for a news script i'm workin on.

// read old file into array
$tmp=file($file);
$f=@fopen($file,"w");
fwrite($file,"new contents\n\n");

// rewrite old contents to the end of the file
for($i=0;$i<count($tmp);$i++)
 fwrite($file,$tmp[$i]);

fclose($file);

that should work, but i havent tested it,

you might want to consider using MYSQL, flatfiles tend to be messy

at least try to get a XML parser...

don't listen to him, he uses ASP...

i see xml as a waste of time if youre not porting it out to a lot of different browser types.. this just seems like a personal page type thing

meant store the data in a XML file and then use it as a structured data file... tends to a bit better 🙂

What does $f do???

and what about $i ?????

$f = the file handle,
$i = for loop var.. ( $i is just 0-(count of array) )

whats wrong with it, take out the '@' char and try to see what error it gives

the geek in me says "add a file_exits() to test for file existencebefore you try to access it"... as usual he's probably right

I took out the @ and still got these errors

Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource /StolenInc/news/postnews.php on line 22

which points to this line:

fwrite($file,"new contents\n\n");

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in StolenInc/news/postnews.php on line 28

which points to this line:

fclose($file);
