Reading formatted text from MySql

I have some text displayed on a webpage from a MySql database, the last field requires say a couple of paragraphs of text. What is the best way for me to do this as at the moment I have chosen a field type of 'text' and entered data but this just displays continuous text. Can I get the text displayed formatted this way or can I read in a text file from outside the database.

Any pointers appreciated in how to do this, be gentle as i'm still learning. Thanks

I am not sure exactly what you are saying...you can place regular HTML in a text field, which could be interpretted upon display. Or, you can take a forum like approach and have the input use special tags, such as and whatnot.

As for just including a seperate file, that is also possible. Then, in the DB, just have a varchar field that stores the path or URL to the file you want to include.

What you can do really depends on how much time you want to spend implementing the system to do it.

It sounds like you are having the same problem I had today. Try using nl2br() around your text field to separate the paragraphs. It should look something like this:

echo nl2br($text);

I hope this is what you mean...
