receive web mail php script

I want to create a web mail script that will check my php3 mailbox and list all new mail in my mailbox. Allow me to delete, forward, reply, etc....

Where do I start...lol

I can't find anything on recieving mail. I can send mail like a madman, I just don't know where to start to receive it.

Ideas?

I've seen a bunch, but I want to write my own. No attachments, and nothing too crazy. I just want something that can receive mail via the web.

Basically, all I really need to know, is the command to receive.

I think it's imap_open(this part I don't know);
