generating table rows from file array

Hi, I have this working code that generates a table row for each item from a file array:

$array1=file("file.txt");
foreach ($array1 as $line)
if (ereg("^{([^{\t])\t+([^\t])$",}} trim($line), $element)) {
?>
<tr>
<td><?php echo ($element);?></td>
</tr>
<?php
}
?>

However, I would like to display two items per row (two cells per row) but I have no idea how to do it. I seem to recall something about a loop...

Any ideas?

first, let me change your way coding

Forgot to ask, how could we include an independant variable that would determine the number of columns? I tried modifying the code you provided, which generates two columns, but cant figure it out...

Flicking my eye across the code, I think the crucial bits that control column count are

if($a <=1 ) { 
//...
if ($a==2) {

Say $num_columns is the number of columns you want. Those two lines change to

if($a <$num_columns) { 
//...
if ($a==$num_columns) {

Hi tried to use your table generating code i can't get any output 😕 unless i consider a blank screen starring at me as output ...probably because i am a complete php newbie 😃

what's the format for the "file.txt" ???

also i can't figure out what this does:

if(ereg("^{([^{\t])\t+([^\t])$",}}trim($line),_$element))
issit suppose to look for tabs??

can show me an example in your file.txt?

here's a simple script i wrote to dump a file.txt into a table

this my FIRST php script 😃 ...so its probably ugly and inefficent...but it works!
