multiple file upload question

How would I let a client select a folder to download. I know ftp has no multiple file upload feature.

Otherwise I wanted to return the contents of a directory and put them in an array.

then use ftp put and a for loop.

Problem:
- How to select a directory from filesystem
- How do I read that directory and put the contents into an index?

Um, are you wanting to upload or download? Upload can't be done for security reasons (basically, if it was possible to upload directories, sites would be able to grab any file they wanted off your machine.)

This (and a workaround) was covered in a thread some hours ago.

There wouldn't be any security issues... whats the difference between FTPing 1 picture and FTPing a directory of 10?

and i'm sure that there must be some way to do what i want to accomplish.

Not much; but you're asking about doing it with http. Different protocol, that.

For the server to use the ftp functions to get a directory worth of files from a user, the server runs an ftp client, connects to an ftp server on the user's machine, logs in, goes to the user-specified directory, gets a filelisting, and loops through an drequests each of thoese.

All of wich assumes that the user has an ftp server up and running on his/her machine for PHP's ftp client to log in to.

There must be a way to do it with PHP.

Yes; that is the thread I cited. Did you actually read it? All that zmola's code does is list the image contents of a directory on the web server; it has nothing to do with uploading and is broken anyway because it confuses file paths and URLs.
