checking a value for a specific string.

I have an entry form which allows users to put in links.

I have set the value to [url]http://[/url] in an effort to train the monkies to just put www.domain.com. This field is optional, so people can leave it blank (to the value of [url]http://[/url]) and it's all good.

The question I have is, I need to check the field to ensure [url]http://[/url] exists in the value. Which function would do this for me?

try following:

if(eregi("^http\:\/\/", $string)) {
  // True
} else {
  // False
}

$test = SubStr ($link, 0, 6);

if ($test == "http://" ) { // everything is OK
}
else { //something is bad
}

Hi,

well, you could use [FONT=courier new]file()[/FONT] or [FONT=courier new]fopen()[/FONT] to check if the URL works.
