Ok,, hi everyone,

I am currently thinking about moving from shtml to pure php website (I have tried couple of things with php and things are very sweet and easy with php)....

anyway,, what I wanna know is the following........

I have a music video website (realmedia format --> videos are streamed using a meta file) and I am trying to find a way using php to protect the location of the videos on my website and restrict people from downloading them to their computers...

I thought about creating a membership only website but that still doesn't solve the problem because people will sign up and then view the source code and find the actual location of the music videos and then download them...

I really don't know how to go around the problem but maybe some comments from you guys will help...

one last thing,,, I usually receive over 15,000 visitors a day (around 100,000 daily impressions) would using a php script impair the performance of my server (server overload)

hmm, thats a lot of hits, if you really get that many
start charging and get a business solution such as akamai.com for content delivery.

First,, i don't have a current script ,, that's why i am trying to gather some ideas before i get started...
and regarding using a someone to manage my site,, well,, i am trying to save money,, not give money away,,,

Also one more question,, how can we call a file from a file from a folder outside the public online folder?? and what if that file is a real media file (*.rm) how can we do that using a meta file to stream it??

That is actually a good idea.

I did something similiar once for a download script.

The catch is this: in the download script I just had the script
send headers and the path to the file, which as outside the web root.

Keeping it out side the web root kept people from having direct asscess to the file.

Say the script is in /var/www/html/ and the file is in /var/downloadscrips. In the script you would put
../../downloadsripts/somefile.tar as the path to the file.

I have a feeling though the same method will not work with real media meta files. I say that because you have to use pnm://yoursite.com/somefile.rm in the meta file. But try it using a system path, may be it will work.

You can also contact tech support at real media. I have actually found them quite helpful in the past.
