I have a macine where the Linux 7.2 install refuses to find the network card. The machine runs at a 2.4G clock rate, there is no manufacturers name on the front or rear panel. I suspect HP had a hand in it though as the "HP Excite" logo comes up when the machine boots, but I could find no manufacturers name on the motherboard either.
The machine came with a built in networking adapter. On the first install shot, the Linux install did not find the networking adapter. So I installed a networking card from another machine where we had installed Linux, thinking that ssince it found it in the other machine it would find it in this one ---- WRONG!. It stilll does not find the adapter.
I have been a Unix programmer for fourteen years, but I am out of quarters on this one. Is there some way I can manually tell the machine what network card is installed so Linux will find it. Should I give up on this machine and have my boss buy a Dell? I suspect that this motherboard is overclocked --- might that have some bearings on my difficulties???
