can anybody solve my problem...how to parse a template through a variable

i have used following code

         $output="$tpl->parse (MAIN,'recommendtable2');";
         mail("$femail","Hey $fname check this  
         out!","$output","FROM:$yemail");

but not working....
what's wrong

$output = $tpl->parse('MAIN','recommendtable2');
mail($femail,'Hey ' . $fname . ', check this out!',$output,'From: ' . $yemail);

not working...
its sending blank email . $output is not parsing through mail.

what to do?
