Serving multiple sites on one server

Hi all.

I recall reading a tutorial about how to use PHP to emulate a web server's serving of multiple sites using host header names. I can't hunt the article down and would appreciate some help.

The scenario is this; I have a site hosted on a virtual server which can only be configured to host one website. I'd like to use this server to host another site.

All help is appreciated. 🙂

The idea behind using a virtual host is so that you can host multiple websites using only one IP address. Why would you only be able to host one site? What OS and webserver you using?

I believe he wants to park domains on an existing account and based upon the $HOST_NAME serve up different sites.

I do this myself to save money. That way I can utilize the full extent of webspace purchased or develop a site and move it to it's own space if usage is warranted.

There are various ways to do it. Play around with it.

are you saying that you have www.mysite.com setup on a virtual host, and you want to be able to have www.mysite1.com hosted too and have a PHP script determine which set of content to serve?

If so, this cannot be done as requests for www.mysite1.com will never be sent to the proper place unless there was a DNS record for www.mysite1.com and a virtual host block added to your webserver config file. Only requests for www.mysite.com will be delivered to you.
