Database values into an array?

Hi,

I have a database consisting of:

Car

What I want to do is extract all of the car names (let's say there's 5) and put them into an array starting at 1. Something like:

$myCars = array(1 => 'Ford','Ferrari','Porsche','Fiat','BMW');

This may be very simple but I am extremely new to this.

I am reading the manual but have not been able to find anything so far to help me. As I said, I am extremely new to this and thought that if I posted in Newbies that someone might be able to point me in the right direction.

Had you spent your keystrokes in identifying which function I might look at for an idea, your contribution would have been thoroughly appreciated. However, you just seem to be interested in contributing to your post-count. People like you just ought to stay quiet or help the Newbies out because, after all, this is a Newbies forum i.e. people new to php.

u didn't say which database software u use and i assume newbies will try access first because it happens that every computer have them...

once u get the recordset
then u can try anyway
like
$value = "";
while(!$rs->EOF){
$value .= $rs->fields["CAR"]->value."|";
// please make sure the CAR will not contain value = |
}

$myCars[1] = explode("|", $value);

get it... !

try this out is should spit out each cars name each on a new line, assuming you are using a mysql database

this in turn creates an array out of $result

$conn = mysql_connect("localhost", "user", "pass") or die ("Could not connect to database!");
$db = mysql_select_db("database") or die ("Could not select database");

$query = "select * from table";
$result = mysql_query($query) or die ("Could not select");

while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result))
{
echo $row['fieldname'] . "<br>";
}
