incorrect configuration?

Hi everyone, I downloaded apache 1.3.26, php 4.2.3 and MySQL 3.23.52 for win32 platform, I followed the install and configure instructions - everything seems to work ok.....everything except capturing form variables.....
The scripts I use on the production server work fine - and bar changing the path needed (from http://blahblah.com to http://localhost) nothing is different.
Well, nothing except the post/getting form variables.....
I've never set up something like this before - so if anyone knows of a particular configuration step that I obviously must have missed - could you let me know?
