I noticed you cannot password protect an individual folder in windows ME. Is there any free software that can accomplish this or do I have to pay money to a third vendor to accomplish what Microsoft should have programmed in the first place?

Depends on what web server you are using. If you use apache you can password protect a directory with a .htaccess file. Other web server should also provide means to do so. What web server are you using?

It's just a simple home network type thing for a small business. I am trying to protect shared access files in windows. I have five workstations connected to a LAN that goes to a hub then a router out to the Internet. All I really want to do is make sure all shared access files in Windows can't be accessed without entering a password. I'm not running apache, 2000 or even Personal web server. Just connecting the stations to the LAN using the TCP/IP properties in Windows and then entering hosts, domains and DNS numbers.

Does that make any sense???

Oh..I got ya. Sorry about that confusion. I've never run Windows ME though, so I can't comment on its security permissions....

I don't know if I am understanding your question correctly. Are you referring to password protecting folders on your own computer or over the network via shares? You can password protect shares if that's what you want to do.
