Hi, I want to restrict certain folders of my site to registered users. I am a absolute newbie to php, I need php script, where visitors can register themselves, validated after email verification, then access the folders . hopefully with mysql as backend. also lost password and...whatever

I have a large religious educational website, i just added 2 big sections based on php/mysql obviously with help from some php guru (atleast for me) , he is unavailable for the moment.

to retrict folder, u may try to use the "realm" to protect the path.
because access from outside will require authentication but access from your php script will not require so...

just set the path let say
http://yoursite.edu/usr/username1
http://yoursite.edu/usr/username2
http://yoursite.edu/usr/username3
and so...
just need to protect the

http://yoursite.edu/usr/ <- this path

so from the start
user will try to register themselves first
after that, a folder for the user will be created

example : http://yoursite.edu/usr/registeredUserName

once they are log in, you may need a web-based ftp which the user can upload their file, rename or ....
like the geocities.

don't ask for php script because u will loss more of the chance to gain the knowledge, build the script on ur own will make you a guru soon.
