Introduction to PHP

Hello,

I am a complete PHP n00b cue bashing, so bear with me... 😃

I have been programming in Visual Basic 6 for a long time now, and I'm near enough intermediate at it if such a scale actually exists :p

Anyway, I am planning to run a fairly complicated site and so I want to learn PHP.

Fact is, I have no idea where to start. Could you reccomend any books/newbie tutorials/development studio software, etc, to get me started?

You must hear this every day, but can you help? 🙂

Personally, I tink the Wrox book "Professional PHP Programming" is great.

I bought a ton of PHP books when I first started, and that one contained the most amount of useful info.

Also, spend some time browsing through phpbuilder and php.net. You will find TONS of information that will help you a lot.

And, if you get stuck, ask a question. The folks on the board are extremely helpful.

Both Wrox book are excellent. (Professional and Beginning).
For a total newbie, I recommend the Beginning version.

Web tutorials are plenty:

and many others...

Obviously you can find many more by running a search through google, but my biggest advise is:

Don't get discouraged by the nature of php/mysql/apache (If that's your platform like most people).
There are a few tricks based on what version of each one you're running in combination with your OS.
The forums on phpbuilder are absolutely great.
They helped me a lot....
