PHP Arrays

I'm new to php. I need some help with arrays.

I have a script that is storing some (varies in amount) lines of html (links)

$links = all of those lines

I need to get the first 5 lines....

.. I believe the best way is with an array.....

I don't know how exactly to do this in PHP.

Anyone care to advise on this?

I checked php.net, but unless you know what you are doing, as far as arrays go, it's pretty useless. (good for the rest though)

An array is an efficient approach.

You don't menetion weather or not the array is already populated, so I'll assume it is not.

The way to populate an array is :

$lines=array('value');
or
$lines[]='value';

You can modify the population of the array to be limited to only 5 by some type of loop (for or while).

If the array is already populated with more than 5, you can also use a for or while loop to only get 5 array values.

echo $lines[$i];

ok, here is what I got:

for($i=0; $i<sizeof($sourcenews); $i++){
preg_match("/<a class=y .*<\/a>/i", $sourcenews[$i], $result);
if(!$result[0])
continue;
$result[0] = str_replace("class=y ", "", $result[0]);
$result[0] = str_replace ("http://", "http://www.macvillage.net/cgi-bin/news/click/?[url]http://[/url]", $result[0]);



 for ($i=0; $i < 5; $i++) {
 echo "$result[$i]";
}

The result is the first line repeated over and over. (never ends)
