Concatanating Strings

I dont know if thats how you spell concatanate, but oh well.... I'm talking about adding two strings together basically. I have a script for database access and I need to know if this is the right syntax.

$queryReviewCat = "SELECT * FROM Reviews ORDER BY "& $Sort &"";

if $Sort is "ID" then would $queryReviewCat be "SELECT * FROM Reviews ORDER BY ID;" ? If not, then what would the proper syntax be?

Why don't you just say:
$queryReviewCat = "SELECT FROM Reviews ORDER BY $Sort";
And if you insist on concatenation I think the default operator for that is ".".
Like so:
$queryReviewCat = "SELECT FROM Reviews ORDER BY ". $Sort;

To expand on what jerdo said, any $string enclosed by double quotes will automatically expand any $otherstring it is enclosing.

The ampersand (&) is VB concatenation, in PHP the concatenate operator is a single dot (.).

I dunno how to spell conatwhatever either, but as long as it is understandable 😃

DISCLAIMER: Nothing against Windows techs intended, I actually have seen it spelled 'concactenate' in a VB courseware book. I just assumed at the time Microsoft made its own version, as surprising a concept as that might be.
