My webhosting provides a large grouping of different PHP software.
I'm a little confused with them..
Xoops
PHP-Nuke
Post-Nuke
PHPwebsite
There are similarities between them. I have used FP2002, and the freebies...lycos, geocities, angelfire site builders, but I've never used the server side software like PHP. Could someone explain simply what's up with them, comparison, or direct me to a link that might explain.
I've got to build 4 domain name sites.
The sites will constantly have to be updated, like daily.
It would be nice to create a new look periodically to keep the sites interesting. So, I'd like to know if there is something like a theme software you can use, which just alters colors and combinations of colors on a one or minimum click basis. I think that should be enough. I realize I'll have to do my images separately. I was thinking of using a CSS type format.
Two of the sites are E-Commerce, with MySql database and shopping carts, two are big upload/download file types. I need the user to follow directions for up and downloads, but I do want to review all uploads for content. So, I'm thinking uploads will not be anonymous, but downloads can be or at least minimally secured by userid/password or cookie. The two sites with the large FTP requirements will also have a bulletin/forum like this one.
I really don't know which of the above software to use, and my hosting is so cheap...they just say, we supply it you learn it elsewhere. I went with a cheap hosting because 4 sites on a good host are a little too expensive while I'm trying to get the knack of PHP. I've been good with them so far, but when I get the upload/download site going...it's gonna take some fast bandwidth access.
I'm not asking anyone to make a long winded response, but if you could point me in the right direction or supply some links with a little...beware or look at this...that would be a big help.
I have two books on PHP, PHP by Larry Ullman and PHP4 developer's guide by Schwendman. These books are basically on coding, not softwares that build coded objects or site pages.
Thank you
