Help intalling PHP on Windows.

Hi.
I have downloaded and installed PHP on my computer. I'm using Windows 98. I don't run a server off my computer, and don't really plane to, unless I have too. I just installed PHP so that I can learn it, and use it on my site which is currently being worked on by my host. I installed PHP, and started a new document in DreamWeaver MX. I just wanted to see if it would work on my computer or not so I typed in this:

<?PHP

echo "TEST";

When I save it, and open it up in the browser. Nothing appears on the page. I have it all like it should, with the HTML tags and all. Just I don't know if I have to do anything else. Can someone please help me? I would really appreciat it.

When you run the script in your browser, view the source. What does it come up with?

what web server are you using, and how do you have PHP configure to work with it?

also, make sure that DW is not entering < and > for < >

best to edit php in plain text using notepad or editplus.

A quick an easy way to get php working with apache is to install phptriad:

Junky: JFYI, Dreamweaver MX (unlike its previous incarnations) will recognise php tags and so won't come up with the < and > that it used to. 😃

To answer junky's question he isn't running a web server, he said so right in his post. To answer HyperBoys question you have to have a webserver running that is setup to parse php pages to make php pages output information through your browser. I would suggest Apache.
