Hi there, how are we all...

I was wondwring whether I could possibly get some help or pointed in the correct ocation to help me acheive what I want to be able to do....
Basically I have a database I am currently working on.
Currently there are duplicate entries because some of the spelling is not the same.

What I want to be able to do is have a script that searches through the db looking for words fields that "sound" the same, and return the results so I can force a rename on them, then go through and update all corresponding linked records......

So for example how would I best get it to perfrom a search and match something like this... in this example I am using artists names.....

Alanis Morissette

Busta Rhymes
Busta Rythmes

Clink Mansell
Clint Mansell

If anyone is able to help me it would be greatly apprecaited.

If you are worried about that, I would send it though a spell check before running the querry. That would cut down on chances of there being misspelled words. If you were worried about people doing something like searching for JLo insted of Jennifer Lopez, then your going to have to look into something else.

How would I set up a spell check that would correctly check against artists names?

as sometimes they do not appear as normal workd that you would find in a dictionary.

How about just running a few queries like this:

UPDATE music SET artist = 'Busta Rhymes' WHERE artist = 'Busta Rythmes';

Unless there are a whole lot of different misspellings... but this would take care of most, if not all of them.

Honestly, you might be lucky and find someone who already has an artist dictionary, if not, you would have to make one. Then you would have to find a way to compare two strings and find the likelyness that they are a match. Which is already a php function, so it shouldnt be that difficult.

Hi there,

The only way I am going to know that there are duplicates is to monitor the tables all of the time to do something like

UPDATE music SET artist = 'Busta Rhymes' WHERE artist = 'Busta Rythmes';

What I would prefer is something a little more automated so all I wouldneed to do is run a script and say do it....

I like the ideo of an artists database already existing, but I doubt my chances on finding one
