What Style?

Hello,

I am new to these forums, so, Hello everyone 🙂, and thank you to anyone who contributes to this thread 🙂.

My question is, what is the default style for PHP tags? I usually use <? ?> as I think <?php ?> are messy. Am I right to use <? ?> or is it personal choice?

its just the same, you can use <? ?> or <?php ?> or <?ggg ?> or <?abcdefg ?> or <?tulalit ?>, it depends on your configuration in php.ini maybe

Yes, it's up to configuration, but there's still an issue of portability.
<?php ?> is the best practice, since it's always recognised as php tag. <? ?> style can de turned off somewhere, so trying to run your script there will cause problems (but I think it's very uncommon configuration to turn it off). the same about asp-style tags <% %> and all the rest.

I would say use <?php all the time. It's all about keeping standards going and making work consistent and unambiguous. <?php says that this is definetly a PHP file.
