So new to PHP, I cant even get it working!

Hi all,

I'm trying to install PHP for the first time and having loads of problems as expected. I was hoping that the win2k installer would configure my IIS server like it said on the tin. Basically it said configure manually because you are missing some OCX files, the trouble is that install.txt seems to be a bit vague in some areas, which has certainly lead me to mess something up along the way.

When I try to preview a page in dreamweaver, all I get is 'The page cannot be found' page.

Does anyone know where I can get the OCX files that the installer needs? Or maybe you have an idea what the hell is up with it?

My setup:-

Win2000
IIS
Dreamweaver

don't use it....never got it working using the installer...

open the zip folder and copy all the files to c:\php

in there open the php.ini file and read it, it will tell you how to configure the ini file to make it all go. then move the php.ini file to the c:\windows\system folder

then go into Adminstrative functions in the control panel
and highlight the webserver to configure that to read the .php extention by choosing Properties from the right click menu.

Hi So new...

I am fairly new myself, but remember what configuring was like. I took the easy route. I did not use IIS. I downloaded Apache on my XP Home edition, installed, and worked beautifully, especially with PHP and MySQL. I had to read up on the PHP.ini file configuration and httpd.conf file for Apache, but pretty much as simple as that. You may want to consider that approach.

I've been through the config twice for IIS now and i'm sure i've followed the instructions to a T, but its no use. I keep getting a security error.

So now its time to try apache.
