problems with linked tables

hi, i have this problem:

I have a database in the server (ms acces database), and several tables in this db are linked tables from other db who is in other machine.

When I try to execute querys that use those tables I recive the follow error:

Warning: SQL error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\Tpi_soyo\tpi_soyo_d\celular\procesamiento de datos\DATOS de permisos y rbs.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data., SQL state S1000 in SQLExecDirect in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ruralcel\actualizar_sistema.php on line 26

I try all the permisions posibilitis, sharing all the hard drives in the network but it still not working. I think that is a problem of the ODBC driver.

my only suggestion is to stay away from MS products.

MySql is free and they have a windows version available.

There is a package called FoxServ on sourceforge.com that will install Apache, MySQL, and php (among some other things) on a Windows machine VERY easily. (one step easy).

If it is at all possible, use MySql instead of Access.

Unfortunately, MySQL's GUI Windows app, Control Center, isn't as good as Access in terms of ease-of-use (although its query builder is nicer).

I'm having a similar problem trying to access a MySQL database through Access via ODBC: I can usually enter a new record field into a table but if I try to edit an existing field it complains about locking even though I have all locks off. :/

It sounds like the linked tables are an access extension that odbc doesn't know how to handle. Can you connect to the real server with the tables on them?

and if you can, switch to MSSQL, MySQL, Postgres, or Firebird, any one of which are more stable and likely to hand load better than access / jet which has serious data corruption issues under heavy parallel load.

yes i can connect to the sever, the server is my machine, in an intranet lan,
i had installed mysql but i dont understand very well how it works, and i left it and continue working in acces, i dont have much time to learn and all the databases here in my work are acces db, i have done the easy way.
i will try to find some tutorial or something about mysql and then switch all the dbs to it.
