PHP compilation error

I get this error when i compile php on my solaris 9
../libtool: ar: not found
gmake[1]: [libZend.la] Error 1
gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/www/php-4.2.3/Zend'
gmake: [all-recursive] Error 1

Can anyone helpÉ

someone else reported something similar a bit earlier, I believe the solution was adding:

/usr/ccs/bin

to your path.

Using solaris?
