formatting textareas in html mail

hi all
just a simple question:
from my website, the user can send an application form via e-mail. I want to format it in HTML, so that the informaiton is clearer. The problem is that I have text areas that can contain several lines. when I send the e-mail, the value of the textarea is printed on the e-mail on one line, so for example, if I have an Address, like
23 Thingy road
Place
DF34 5TH

then it prints it out on one line like 23 Thingy road Place DF34 5TH.
How do I get it to split up?
