limit the CPU or I/O usage per upload

Hi All,

I noticed that whenever I upload BIG files in my php webmail for attaching attachments to my mail, the entire server slows down tremendously.

This affects all the users using the webmail and the server.

Is there any way to limit the CPU or I/O usage per upload request in the PHP code?

You can set a maximum size for uploaded files and a maximum script execution time, but i don't believe you can set CPU or I/O limits.

Maybe you should just "nice 19 httpd" 😉

You could check the file size of the file that the user requested and compare it to a limit you have set. If it's above that limit then deny access to downloading file.

I recommend something like 5 megs or so...

Actually, I have already specified a file size limit.
But if I could control the cpu utilization, eg. "nice", then it would be good.
