PHP a CGI?

Call me stupid if you want, but I am currently applying for placement year jobs and I was wondering if you could call PHP an example of CGI?

What does everyone reckon?

While PHP can be compiled as a CGI program, it is normally compiled as an included module in apache or other, lesser web servers.

But, the theory behind programming it is much the same as the theory behind programming standard CGI, just slightly simplified.

In terms of experience, yes, it's pretty much the same thing.
