File to Var

Hello,

Is it possible, to read a file from the server and put the contents of that file in a variable?

You can do it like this ...

Create a PHP file and put the variable assignment into it ...

<?
$my_var = "whatever";
?>

Then use an include() to pull it into another page.

include('myfile.php');

Then the variable $my_var is available to the script that includes the file.

Well, uuuuhmmm. Thanks, but that was not exactly what I ment 🙂

Let's say, I have a txt file on my server. I want the text on that file stored in a $var, so I can use it later in the php script, instead of putting all includes over the place. The txt file is actually a template html file, and I don't feel like slashing all special characters etc.

You could fopen() the file and assign it's contents to a variable. Sounds like you need a template though. Check out phplib, FastTemplates or Zend has one I believe.
