File copy permissions

I am putting together a templating program by hand (yeah yeah I know there are hundreds of them out there... but i'm making one that has the features -I- want and -nothing- more)

I want to be able to create files within the main htdocs folder without chmodding it fully open. Is there any way to identify a user and allow write capabilities within a specific script?

nope, youll have to chmod the folder to 777, and chmod all scripts but the one you want to 755 and the want you want to have all permissions to 777....

I can't quite make out what you are attempting to say, but it sounds strikingly similar to a readme file contained in most every CGI script package. I'm looking for a way to temporarily change folder permissions.

oo lol ... you may have to make a separate folder for each user
or
maybe like this:

chmod ("folder", 0777 )
thefunction();
chmod ("folder", 0755)

or use unmask()
