Full-path to file ALWAYS needed??

I recently installed php 4.2.3 (an upgrade from version 4.0.5). And noticed that you have to use the full path to a file with for example file_exists(). The same goes for include() in some cases..
Why is this? Nothing works anymore, not even phpBB (a really good forum) since it can't find it's include files or template files without me editing every page..

Is there any solution to this problem? So that I can use relative paths once again?

I'm running Apache 2.0.42 with PHP 4.2.3 on a Slackware 7.1 box..

eh im sure this is optional in the php.ini file because i didnt hear of this problem before..
I upgraded to the new PHP version and didnt had ANY trouble..

I found some information on this problem.. It's a bug (new feature? 😉) that you will encounter when you run Apache 2.x with som PHP 4.2.x versions.. there's a quick fix for it.. just write file_exists(realpath(..)).. This is quite tedious work to do, so I'm thinking of switching back to good 'ole Apache 1.3.x

Yes I was running into the same problem. This bug has been addressed in the current release that can be found on the snaps server (not the current public relelase, still beta).

This fixes the problem, and I have had no problems with it yet. Remember this is still beta! The link is below:
