could not upload??

I could not upload my pages using FTP. Can anyone tell me why?

I've tried to upload to different web hosting services (CoolFreePages, Tripod_UK, Portland). It all doesnt work.
I'm sure everything is set properly.. the server name, username, password.
Any other possibility?

Also does anyone know what is the best free web hosting service that support PHP other than those 3?
