It's not really a php question but maybe you guys know this too.

As you know windows uses hidden files. And even super hidden files. Is there a possibility to CREATE a folder in windows that is SUPER hidden? And how do you do this.

If you're able to create one yourself. Is it possible to do this in PHP?

what do you mean by super hidden??

if by that you mean create a dir that's only accessible to php using NTFS it'll require some windows API knowledge but should be possible.

Q. What are Super Hidden Files?

A. Windows 2000 introduces Super Hidden Files which as the name implies files which are hidden from the user even more than normal hidden files. If you example you enable the ability to view hidden files and folders in Explorer these super hidden files/folders will still not be displayed. This super hidden file status is for folders like the cmdcons folder which is used for the Emergency Recover console

My question is how can i create sush a folder in windows.

I need to create a folder that you can't see if you start up windows explorer. Not even if you have admin rights.

The only way to access it is by giving the exact path.
The folder can't be displayed by setting 'show hidden files' to true.

I want to put some program files there taht only my program is allowed to change and me. No one else. Not even an administrator. Unless he knows the exact path.

Php to access it.

try http://msdn.microsoft.com it's usually a good start. Try to check for feature availability between various versions of W2K and if a SP didn't scratch this feature.

by the way, a super hidden file is only accessible by DOS or by the kernel.

Windows explorer makes no reference to it at all.

I know what they are but have no idea how to do it. It is said to be real simple but the name has to begin with some special characters like $#* or something.

and you can't do that in explorer so you would have to do it in dos using mkdir.

That's all I know on the subject.

I actually don't know. A guy here at work is writing an application. He wanted some files to be super hidden so he asked if you could do this in windows. He wanted to save some config files there that no one should be able to alter but the program should be able to use them.
