Query string queries

Taking a look at the php manual I have found that the register-global setting in php.ini is set to off from php 4.2 and onwards.

Does this mean you cant auto make a variable $somevar from eg http://www.somedomain.com/index.php?somevar=1??

If this is the case then what $_ global variable do I use?

By the way I am not passing the query string on a "post" or "get" form.

for URL variables (aka. GET) you use $GET or $HTTP_GET_VARS. For post variables it's $POST and $HTTP_POST_VARS.

Correct me if im wrong but does $_GET work even though you havnt submitted/used a get form?

Yes, that's why I said 'URL variables' in the first place.
so if you go to an address such as:

http://www.mydomain.com/myscript.php?variable=value

then myscript.php will have $_GET['variable'] defined with the value 'value'.
