validate expiry date > issue date ??

Hello,

what is a recommended and convenient/easy method to validate expiry date > issue date of a card, accepted by user in format MM/YY only.

e.g. 01/03 is greater than 11/99
01/00 is less than 01/02
02/98 is less than 02/00

is it easier to check in PHP or using MySQL date/time functions.

any help will be highly appreciated.

1)How about a drop down select box ? Would solve som eof the problem, as 2000 is greater than 1999 etc... and the months would follow on as well.

2)You could get the dates and use strtotime and compare timestamps... for greater than etc...

No, I don't have a drop down box with periods.
I have an input text field only with MM/YY format.

any other way of doing it ?

Yup - my Option 2)

Get the dates, run through strtotime($datestring) and compare

if ((strtotime($datestart))>(strtotime($dateend)))
{
echo "Thats wrong";
}
{
//rest of script
}
