Looking for PHP equivalent to SSI

First off... My new server doesn't seem to support server side includes (SSI), but it does support PHP4. I am wondering if there is a way to do the same thing as an SSI with PHP. I want to put in a header, footer, and navigation that can be changed on all pages at once with the alteration of a single page, but not be forced to use frames. I'm very new to PHP, so if anyone could please lend a hand....

You can use php's include statement. Create a header.html, footer.html and nav.html then you can include them on every page. Say you have a page called news.php:

include('/path/to/includes/header.html');
include('/path/to/includes/nav.html');
?>
Here you could put some content relating to your news page
<?
include('/path/to/includes/footer.html');
?>
