.htaccess and permissions

i posted once already and i was directed to reading up on .htaccess, so i did. i found out how to protect a directory but i dont understand how to or if htaccess can set the user to a group after logging in. i have a folder called "admin" protected with htaccess, a folder called "files"(world is NOT able to access this directory) and another directory called "user" which is also proteced with htaccess. basically "admin" contains a script that can delete, upload, or download the files in the directory "files" and "user" contains a script that can download the files in "files". basically i want the htaccess of both directories to set any logged in user OR admin to a group that "files" allows so the scripts can do their duties. thanks for any help!

Let me get this straight.

You want htaccess to find out which "user group" a user belongs to and based on that, grant or deny accesss to certain directories?

If so, I don't think htaccess can do that. (I'm not 100% sure, but I really don't think it can). Your best bet for something like this is writing a pretty darn compicated PHP script.

Somebody, correct if I'm wrong.
