help with persistent sessions

Hello,

I have this problem : i want to make session data persistent for a long time, a few days, weeks.... but the data gets cleared and a new session is started after a few hours.
In the php.ini file i have this

session.cookie_lifetime 1209600 1209600
session.gc_maxlifetime 1209600 1209600
session.gc_probability 1 1

I really cannot understand what's happening here? Can anyone help?

Is it maybe that the garbage collector kicks in after a few hours, given the 1% probability? Should I set it lower maybe?

Are these your ini lines?

It should be something like this:

session.cookie_lifetime = 1209600
session.gc_maxlifetime = 1209600
session.gc_probability = 1

The 1209600 is the number of seconds a cookie will live:
This is 14days.

They probably contain the ' = ' sign too, i took them from the phpinfo script of the ISP.
