Converting Web Pages to CD-ROM

I have a web site that uses PHP and MySQL. I would like to put the entire site with all the functionalliy on a CD-ROM.

My question is,

is it possible to create a database in access 97 similar to what I have created in MySQL and have all my PHP files work properly with the access database without any problems?

Also, is there anything I should know in advance before I proceed with this conversion.

The short answer is no. For several reasons.

First of all, MySQL and Access97 are not compatible and if your code works with MySQL it is unlikely to work with Access.

Secondly, there are certain practicalities which make putting a PHP and DB driven site onto CD very difficult. PHP is a server-side scripting language and relies on a web server like Apache to operate. Most people don't run web servers on their PCs. You will also find a similar problem with MySQL. People will need to have their PCs set up precisely for your pages to work. Why do you need to put your site onto CD? Is it as a resume thing, or just for transportation to a new home? If it's a resume, people won't be able to just put your CD in and view the site.

Also, just out of interest, if you have a working site based on MySQL, why convert it to Access97? Seems like a bit of a downgrade to me 🙂

a while ago there was a company that came out with a product called MICROWEB. It's basically a web server that fits onto disk. This allowed you to run HTMlL as well asCGI scripts because they had incorporated PERL into this. I haven't followed them in a while, but maybe by now they might have incorporated PHP and MySQL. You can possibly do a search on the web for "Microweb" to see...

I just talked with the people at this company they said:

"We added full PHP support on Oct 3. There are two downloads on our website, the full download includes PHP. It is pre-configured you don't have to do anything. It also contains mysql, if you don't need mysql you should remove the mysql directory."
