my sun cobalt site can be seen by netscape not internet explorer

i set up my first sun conbalt site, i can access it by the domain name through the netscape but not through the internet explorer.

if i try to access it by IP addresses, both of the netscape and internet explorer are fine.

what is the problem here? i cannot figure out from the same computer, one browser can access the site by the domain name, one cannot.

help please!!!!!!

Is it a TLD name? Assuming IE can resolve DNS properly for other domains, I cannot help but wonder if you have one of those fourth level domains that require a browser plugin to resolve, and the plugin only works on Netscape for you.

Just a thought.

why in the beginning, the netscape is working and the internet explorer is not working?

i change the domain's IP yesterday to my new server yesterday.

it might be becuase some of the top level domain name servers didn't update their records yet this morning.

but why netscape was ok and internet explorer was not? does the http request from netscape and internet explorer go through different paths, so go to different top level domain servers?

It shouldn't make a differance, unless you have one of your browsers set up to go through a proxy or have one set up to obtain DNS records from somewhere other than your ISP. I would check the browser settings, if they are both obtaining DNS service from the same place (usually your ISP) then... I dunno, that seems strange to me...

thanks. yes, my internet explorer was set to go through proxy, but netscape is directly connect to the internet.

so to explain the problems i run into is that

due to explorer goes through proxy and netscape does not. so they are using different path.

and on netscape path, the DNS servers records had updated, so my new domain is recognized. but on the internet explorer path, the DNS servers records was not updated in time this morning. so it cannot recognize the domain name. so i have seen the problems that netscape works but internet explorer doesn't work.

but in the afternnoon, all the DNS servers are updated, so both internet explorer and netscape work fine.

am i right?
