preg_match...This is really weird!

This is my preg_match....

if(preg_match("/<a href=\"javascript:openPeeker\(\)\" onMouseOver=\"document.images\['up'\].src='..\/pf\/overcase.jpg'\" onMouseOut=\"document.images\['up'\].src='..\/pf\/upcase.jpg'\"> <img src=\"..\/pf\/upcase.jpg\" width=\"106\" height=\"27\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" align=\"\" name=\"up\"><\/a>/", $row[3]))

Is there a limit to how many characters it can match?
Didn't think so!
Funny thing is that it only matches up to:

if(preg_match("/<a href=\"javascript:openPeeker\(\)\" onMouseOver=\"document.images\['up'\].src='..\/pf\/overcase.jpg'\" onMouseOut=\"document.images\['up'\].src='..\/pf\/upcase.jpg'\">/", $row[3]))

If I do that it works fine, but if I include the whole thing, it doesn't work!

i tried your codes, it worked, it means preg doesnt give any limit to the characters, see again your $row[3], maybe it doesnt matche really

Two things I notice:

1. Because '.' is a special character in regexps, you should be escaping that as well.

2. You don't need to use a preg_match anyway:

   if(strcmp("<a href=\"javascript:openPeeker()\" onMouseOver=\"document.images['up'].src='../pf/overcase.jpg'\" onMouseOut=\"document.images['up'].src='../pf/upcase.jpg'\">", $row[3])==0)
   

   There, isn't that easier to look at? And much faster, too. I might go a step further:

   if(strcmp(<<<EOS
   <a href="javascript:openPeeker()" onMouseOver="document.images['up'].src='../pf/overcase.jpg'" onMouseOut="document.images['up'].src='../pf/upcase.jpg'">
   EOS
   , $row[3])==0)

   to get rid of the remaining escapes.
