Dynamic Drop Down Boxes

Hi Everyone

Firstly before everyone says there are loads of stuff based on this topic already on the forum, I know! However all the examples I have found are based on there being two small but similar tables containing data relative to each.

My problem is that I have only one large table with about a dozen fields. I require that when one option is selected in the first drop down box the list of options avaliable changes in the second drop down box. The second list obviously depends on the select made in the first.

Can anyone please give me help on this!?

But by the way I am using a MySQL database and php for the code and I think I am going to require some JavaScript in there also.

You can:
1) refresh page each time user selects smth

2) Put your select boxes into IFRAME tags (see <iframe> tag in HTML4 spec) and reload them

3) Put all available cases into JavaScript array(s) and modify your <select> boxes depending on user actions.

But I kind of guessed two out of your three options. I am currently trying to implement the first option of refreshing the page after each selection, the problem I have is in how I should code this.

I am kind of a newbie and could do with a little more detail on the implemention if some could provide that, it would be great.

I am currently trying to call the form "$PHP_SELF" after each selection but have become lost and just keep recalling the page from the start, losing the selection.

Tell me one thing, please. Is your site made for all browsers, or you can make it, lets say for IE, NN 4+ ?

Just IE4+ and NN4+ is fine, but 95% access will be through IE4+ as it will main be accessed via a large lan, with global access through an external password site.

Ok. Which way do you prefer:

1) Using IFRAMES - more difficult, but very quick loading page

2) Using Page reload for each selection - this is the simple way, but very-very slow reloading.

Sorry for my delay on replying but I was away.

I am currently working on using the method of refreshing the page after each selection. I seems to take roughly about 3 second to refresh which is OK for what it is being used for.
