Hi, i am putting together a shopping cart. I got it to show the price, quantity and a total by going

$result=$price * $qty;

echo "<TR><TD>£ $result</TD></TR>";

that gives me the total at the end of the row, but if there are say 3 items in the basket i need it to add the total of the results column up and i am at a loss how to achieve this

so eg.

item qty price total
widget 2 £50 £100
widget2 1 £40 £40

total £XXXX

is what i need.

its probably simple but any help will be apprechiated thanks.

Try using a session variable that gets the $result added to it after each item is added to the basket. I will assume you are already using session variables or an array to store some data. then you can just loop through the array

for ($x=0; $x < count($array); $x++) {

}

should loop through the elements in an array.

How are you storing your data for the shoping cart?

it is being stored in mysql tables. It writes the selection to mysql and then retrieves it when they checkout. The session closes when the person closes the browser or checks out.

i need to know how to add data together in column from a sub total to a total.

so you probalby are doing something like

$sql = "select * from table where session = ";
$results = mysql_query($sql);

while ($data = mysql_fetch_array($results)) {
// output shoping cart line item
$result = $quantity * $price;
}

Just add

$sql = ...
$results = ...

$total = 0;

while ($data = ...) {
// output shoping cart line item
$result = ...

$total += $result
}
