Parse Error?? What?

I'm a newbie to PHP but have been using CF forever. How could this not work. Where's my problem pleeeese?

I copyied that right out of Dreamweaver. Do you think those underscores are actually there?

to get test echoed you need this.

$string = "test"; 
echo "$string";
?>

Try this:

echo $string;

i think the _ were causing the problem.
