how to use the database on the sun cobalt?

I am a PC guy using php/interbase before.

now I switch the sun cobalt. And i used the sun cobalt log in control panel set up the web site etc.

But I have no clues how to use the interbase database which is installed with sun cobalt?

I even don't know where to start, where is the interbase server, how to get access to it, how to create database etc.

any advices go get me start? anything, advices, web links, books recommend, please.

I don't know what cobalt web appliance you use but I know that Ra-Q comes with mySQL which is a really kick to admin and manage through phpMyAdmin...
Contact your admin and ask him if he can grant you access to a mySQL DB it's much easier...

but i am the admin. or would be the admin.

i was running the web server php/interbase on PC IIS. i am pretty comfortable with that. now i was going to transfer all our sites to the sun cobalt 550.

and i only have very basic unix and linux experience. willing to learn.

in sun-cobalt control panel, it only let you set up the web, mail, ftp, telnet servers etc. and set up the web sites.

but how to run a database (interbase/mysql installed) is not in sun cobalt control panel. i guess it is just regular linux thing. but i even don't know how to start here.

is sun cobalt's linux having GUI interface?

can't you do all this remotly from your PC using your good old management tools?

Why not look in the DB doc to see if there is a management tool somewhere in linux (I am sute it has an interface even a character based one...)

Do you plan on following a course to familiarize with linux?

Admining Linux servers is not as fast start as windows but it's more stable 🙂

If i remember correctly Cobalt has a admin dedicated box that allows you to manage everything from a single box... would be good to have a look.
