interbase database from pc to linux

i have interbase databaes which was on Interbase for windows 6.0 server

now i want to transfer these databases from windows platform to interbase for linux 6.0 server.

how can i do it? can i just simply ftp these mydatabase1.gdb, mydatabase2.gdb which was on interbase windows platform to my linux machine and register them with interbase server for linux?

if i cannot, how can transfer these databases? any helps?

plus, any advice on how to use interbase on the linux, i have no idea how to start.

i have sun cobalt 550 with me and the interbase server for linux is installed.

Interbase (or Firebird) have different file formats for each operating system. Don't just copy the files from one system to another, it won't work. Use the database backup and restore features in Interbase as documented on page 160/161 of the 6.0 Operations Manual, making sure you back up your Windows data in transportable format.
