when I do date("F j, Y, g:i a") it comes out as 12.31.69, 7:00 pm which is the unix epoch. What is wrong with the format?

That's impossible, notice how your date string is a different format. I'm pretty sure what you see printed is coming from somewhere else... I get: "October 13, 2002, 12:27 am" If the problem would have been epoch related, you'd have printed something like: "January 1, 1970, 12:00"

On a related note, what do you get when you do:

print time();

[sfhc]

It is not impossible.

Whenever date() returns epoch, that means it was not passed a timestamp to apply the format too.

In order to get it to format a particular timestamp you must pass it one.

$time=time();

$formattedTime=date("F j, Y, g:i a",$time);

echo $formattedTime;

The second parameter of date() is optional, putting time() in there changes nothing as that's the default. I agree, when it returns epoch there is a timestamp issue but the format string of date() won't change because of it. Maddox, I don't believe you're showing us the culprit code ... take sfhc's advice and make sure you're entering a valid timestamp to your date() or for the current local date don't enter one at all.
