mail() not supported ??

on my linux mandrake 8.2 mail function doesnt
want to work, what i must to do , or what i must
to configure or what i must to install

you must configure php.ini;
watch if your server has all connections right and can mail without using php with functions like sendmail ...

in php ini i have

"for unix only"
sendmail_path= ""

this parameter, sorry but i dont understand what i must
to do at first . ????

i write in mc shell> sendmail , but nothing happens, now i
instal sendmail, i nothing happens to..
