Try typing: EOS
in the text field for searching the manual. BINGO instant results without the wait.

try another search... there are many PHP manuals online.
This one says why it's not returning any results...

Anyway, you know what EOF is? It's probably a similar concept.

Where have you seen EOS?

yeah, here is the code I was looking at. I was doing a preg_match...which sucks because you have to escape everything...and I was asking if there was and easier way to do it and someone gave me that code above.

So I was just wondering if anybody knew what I meant.

But, if nobody know, then I guess I can do my homework. 🙂

I was getting scared... I wasn't able to find it either.

But now that I see your code, I know what it is.

It's actually a text escape sequence. AND it allows you to cheat on your character escaping.

the first EOS tells php that everything that follows is pure text. PHP is smart enough to disregard any special characters, and knows to treat it as pure text. The second EOS is telling PHP that it has reached the end of the text.

Try looking up text handling stuff. I don't have my book on me right now.

Then it's the same thing, there is no difference.

A heredoc can use any text... it's not part of PHP. It's user defined.

It could be "myText" or "EOS" or "EOD" or "text" or "someText"...

it's like a variable name: whatever you like.

I saw it on that link you gave me. I was reading the page and EOS, and EOT are referenced in there.
